Those With Whom You Belong, They’ll Follow You
September 29, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am PDT
Paul Haury, Belonging Coach, Heart Based Leading
Who do you follow? Now let’s make the question really matter. Who do you willingly follow into the unknown, into the risk, danger? It’s an inspiration to influence, versus command-and-control. Leaders go first, into the unknown, the risk, and danger. They eat last.
In the long run, belonging trumps purpose, duty, and coercion. Always. If they’re not willingly following you, you’re not leading. How many times have you gone first for others?
We’ll dive into this, in a TEDx-like conversational and interactive experience, to give you an understanding of your own belonging to help you answer this question in consideration for the people you’ll lead. Have you made your belonging with them as important as having the technical skills to do a job at an optimal level? They’ll follow you if you’re their leader, and they’re your people.
For your people to stay following you, they will need belonging across these six areas:
Belonging, Believing, Lived Values, Join Stories, Practice, Grow
That is, they’ll have to be able to say…
- I belong with my company
- I believe in the company shared purpose
- I live my values and from my strengths
- I join in in the company Us Story
- I own my practices for my company
- I grow with this company
