The Koa Club is pleased to collaborate with John Sarich, founder of Johnny’s Fit Ohana, to provide free kettlebells coaching once a week for the women of The Koa Club (currently for the month of January but may be extended beyond January depending on the interest from The Koa Cub membership).

So, what are kettlebells? Kettlebells are cast iron weights ranging from 5 lbs to over 100 lbs, shaped like a ball with a handle for easy gripping.

The American Council on Exercise commissioned a study to find out just how effective kettlebell training is. The researchers saw significant improvement in endurance, balance, and core strength after eight weeks of kettlebell exercises, with the biggest improvement n the core, where strength had increased by 70%.

For several years when I lived in Hawaii, I went to Johnny’s early morning kettlebells class on the beach three times a week without fail. I was definitely out of shape when I started, but through Johnny’s patient, funny, encouraging yet relentless kettlebells coaching, I got fitter and stronger, which helped me a lot in tackling all my other outdoor pursuits, including, with my marathon, triathlon and even body building goals. We are incredibly lucky to have Johnny, an incredible kettlebells guru, agree to donate his time and skills to coach The Koa Club women in 2021! Don’t miss this opportunity to train with Johnny and we have limited spots,” says Susan Seah, Founder of The Koa Club.

Here is an 2018 article from Hawaii News Now where Johnny helped his Hawaii kettlebells team set a new Guinness World Record for the most weight hoisted in an hour by a kettlebell team: The youngest is 50. The oldest is 77. And they’re taking a shot at a weightlfting record (hawaiinewsnow.com)
