The Importance of Effective Communication in the Workplace

Workplace communication is the exchange of information between employees in a work environment. This includes face-to-face conversations, emails, chat messages, videoconferencing, phone calls, and other methods used to convey information in the workplace. This ability to exchange information and ideas at work is an essential skill in many roles. A workplace that communicates more effectively establishes a “safe” place for people to think creatively and express their ideas. It helps employees feel more comfortable taking ownership for challenges and projects, and typically results in more creative brainstorming or problem-solving initiatives.  Good communication isn’t just about being able to more accurately and concisely present information and ideas. Miscommunication can have very real consequences for a business.  Communication is integral to sales, client relationships, team development, company culture, employee engagement and buy-in, and innovative thought.

Meg Manazir is the Director of Executive Platforms and Narratives for the Microsoft Advertising team. Her stories shape the way the market views the business, and her work deploying executive storytelling on a global scale drives influence across the digital advertising industry. Prior to her current role, Meg spent nearly 7 years in executive communications, looking after content and delivery for Microsoft executives. She led communications for senior leaders through the pandemic, situations of racial and social injustice, war, as well as tech industry layoffs, reorganizations, and business shifts. Meg has deep experience communicating in the tech industry – creating and successfully scaling corporate programs worldwide, driving crisis communications strategies that honor the humans impacted and involved, leading social and digital programs to growth, producing events on a global scale, and delivering empowering communications and presentation training. Outside of work, Meg is constantly in search of growth and adventure.
