Topic of the Month: Workplace Conflict Management

What is the Featured Panelists Spotlight?

Our Featured Panelists Spotlight will be held on a Wednesday of each month. During the Featured Panelists Spotlight, we invite guest panelists to share their experiences, insights, tips and strategies that they have found to be effective in their professional or personal lives when tackling the featured topic for the month.

Mastering Difficult Workplace Situations

In the workplace, we all encounter difficult situations from time to time. Whether it’s addressing conflicts with a colleague or client, providing constructive feedback, or negotiating a delicate issue with your boss, these interactions can be emotionally charged and challenging to navigate. In order to maintain a high level of productivity, a positive work environment is absolutely essential. Although many aspects of the workplace are completely under your control, there will be occasions when you feel uncomfortable and like you have no clue what to do, and the only control you have is how you react. That’s why learning how to handle difficult conversations with grace and professionalism is an essential skill for any successful work environment.

Panelists-

Robert Wert is co-owner and Chief Strategy Officer of Next Element Consulting, a global consulting and advisory firm focused on leadership, communication and organizational culture change. He also is the owner and President of Exaudian Consulting, a Chicago-based firm that is part of Next Element’s network of independent service providers. A former mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance lawyer, public company general counsel and corporate executive, Rob is an expert in interpersonal communications, positive conflict, human behavior and building compassionate cultures across all industries. He is certified in a variety of communication and leadership methodologies and is a co-creator of The Compassion Mindset ® , a curriculum for introducing the practice of Compassionate Accountability ® to all levels of an organization. A lover of great food and wine, bad movies, science fiction, his partner Jill, his two adult daughters and the Chicago Cubs, Rob is a voracious reader of books, articles and newsletters on a disturbingly broad set of topics.

Meet Erin Stephens: I have two incredible daughters (of course, I am biased), watching them start their first jobs, grow, and develop into bright young women has been an amazing experience that I am thankful for and why I get out there every day to change the future of work and build happier workplaces. Oxford Human Resources Group was born out of my passion for people and doing the right thing in business. I genuinely believe that in business, we can create compliance and an engaged workforce that drives the business forward. It does not matter how technology changes our business; we are human and will always relate to each other on that level. I like to think of myself as a driven, results-oriented, strategic human resources and occupational health & safety professional. I do have over 17 years of exciting and complex experience. I have served leaders and employees in both federally & provincially regulated workplaces in various industries, including manufacturing, telecommunications, construction, health care, retail, and service. I also enjoy the fun of teaching new HR & Safety professionals as an instructor with Conestoga College, teaching in the Human Resources Management and Occupational Health & Wellness programs. I am a perpetual student, currently enrolled in the Communications program at Western University. I hold a College Diploma in Finance & Accounting from Niagara College and diplomas in Human Resources Management and Occupational Health & Safety from Conestoga College. Additionally, I am proud to hold my Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation from the Ontario Human Resources Professional Association and my Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation from the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.
