Description

If you live in Washington State, come for a fun guided spring hike to Poo Poo Point (just 20 minutes from Seattle) led by an experienced hike trip leader, to explore a beautiful forest, unbelievable views and possible paragliders at summit.

According to Washington Trails Association: “Poo Poo Point lies on a shoulder of West Tiger Mountain, and a small knoll there is topped by a mast with a windsock. The knoll is only a few feet higher than the surrounding area, but it qualifies Poo Poo Point – if minimally – as one of West Tiger’s summits…The Point is a great spot to sit and enjoy the view and have a snack. There are two picnic tables, and there is a Clivus toilet. There is no regular water source at the Point. If your timing is right you may enjoy seeing a few paragliders soar off the steep northwestern face of the Point…The Point also offers a fine view northwest across Issaquah and Lake Sammamish toward Bellevue’s downtown. To the west are Squak and Cougar Mountains, with a hint of Seattle’s tallest buildings showing beyond.”

The Poo Poo Point trail can be accessed from the Issaquah Alps trailhead where there is free parking. There is also parking at Issaquah High School. For this trip, let’s park and meet at the Issaquah High School parking lot (we will have a Koa Club sign with us in front of our vehicle so you can find us), where we will then all head down together to the trailhead.  From the trailhead the trail will be unsigned, but we’ll pass a swampy area and then reach the first sign just 0.3miles down the way that looks like this:

For more details about the hike and how to get to the Issaquah High School parking lot, go to:  Poo Poo Point — Washington Trails Association (wta.org)

Trip Distance: 7.2 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain:
1,858 feet

Bring hiking poles,  snacks, water and weather-appropriate clothing.

Meet at the trailhead (we will have a balloon tied to a hiking pole so you can spot us) at 9:00am – be sure to arrive on time.

For precaution against COVID-19, we are limiting this hiking trip to no more than 10 people total for now per the latest requirements for the State of Washington and please bring your mask to the  trip.  We will also practice 6 feet apart social distancing with the group to the extent we can.

About the Trip Leader

Morgan Boyle has been interested in the outdoors since he was a child.  During his childhood he spent a lot of time solo hiking around the trails close to his house, oftentimes trying to get lost so he could find a route back to the trail head.  For the past five years Morgan has been a member of The Mountaineers allowing him to get back to hiking and learning new snow skills.  He has been involved with The Mountaineers snowshoe program as an instructor teaching Basic and Back Country skills; and he enjoys sharing how different the trails look with seasonal changes with all skills levels.
