Description
When the warm weather hits, are you planning to head outdoors for some memorable adventures, such as hiking, climbing, bouldering, camping or backpacking? We expect to have tons of fun and excitement on these adventures but are we prepared for any unexpected crisis that can occur when we are out in the wilderness? What if you were hiking, took a wrong turn somewhere and got lost on the trails, realized your cellphone has no service and that it is starting to get dark? What if a bear came sniffing around your campsite, hungry for the dinner you are eating in your tent? There are many “what ifs” situations that can occur when you are in the natural environment – do you have even the most basic survival skills to help you through these occurrences or preserve the best chance for you to get through these occurrences without further harm to yourself?
Our speaker, Morgan, will walk us through some basic survival skills for the wilderness, and will guide us on how we can be properly equipped with the appropriate knowledge and tools for the environment you will be venturing in.
Speaker
Morgan Boyle has been interested in the outdoors since he was a child. During his childhood he spent a lot of time solo hiking around the trails close to his house, oftentimes trying to get lost so he could find a route back to the trail head. For the past five years Morgan has been a member of The Mountaineers allowing him to get back to hiking and learning new snow skills. He has been involved with The Mountaineers snowshoe program as an instructor teaching Basic and Back Country skills; and he enjoys sharing how different the trails look with seasonal changes with all skills levels.
