Since the onset of COVID-19, traveling to far away places and trying the cuisine sounds like a dream to some of us. In 2024, we will be holding a monthly international dinner for a small group of members located in Seattle to get to meet other members in person, and try food from around the world. Join us for a relaxed, no-pressure, fun atmosphere to build connections and discuss important topics. The Koa Club’s Around the World Dinners will be limited to 10 women only, so the first 10 women to RSVP will be able to attend. We will be meeting at various locations in Seattle each time. Each guest is expected to pay for their own meals and drinks. Let’s try some Italian food!
Interpreting Non-Verbal Cues
Communication is so much more than just the words that are spoken. Nonverbal communication conveys important messages from both the person speaking and the person listening. Good communication can help improve relationships with family, friends and co-workers. One way to improve your own communication skills is to be more aware of nonverbal signals you either send or receive. These signals can be positive or negative. We reveal a lot about our emotions and intentions from the way we stand and sit in relation to other people, whether we maintain eye contact and for how long, and by our facial expressions. Nonverbal communication can be unconscious, semi-conscious or conscious, but we can’t control every type of nonverbal communication at will. There’s no dictionary of universally defined nonverbal messages but it can influence social interactions in many ways. Knowing this can be helpful when you’re interpreting nonverbal messages, but it’s also useful to be aware of your own and when you want to persuade someone in a conversation or negotiation. If you know how certain facial expressions and gestures affect other people and put these cues to good use, you’ll know how to persuade others better.
