In this 60-minute presentation (plus time for Q&A), Certified Parent Coach® Christy Keating, J.D. will explore a new framework for addressing (almost) any conflict or challenge that arises with children, whether they are toddlers, teens, or in-betweens, and helps parents when that “I don’t know what to do or say” feeling happens.  Christy will touch on:

• How our brains hijack our best intentions while parenting;
• How to respond rather than react;
• What our children’s challenging behaviors may actually be telling us and how to decode the messages;
• Why time-outs, rewards, punishments, and bribes don’t work and what to do instead;
• How to problem-solve with our children; and
• How to ensure our solutions help our families THRIVE.

Drawing on principles of positive discipline as well as research and writings by Dr. Daniel Siegel, Jane Nelsen, Lynn Lott, Rudolph Driekurs and countless others, as well as her own experience as both a parent and parent coach, Christy provides attendees with that information bucks some principles of traditional Western parenting and teaches parents a new framework for interacting with their children and solving problems.  Attendees will walk away with clear strategies they can use to parent in a way builds love, joy, connection, along with important social emotional skills, and may even find some new ways to interact with their spouses and co-workers!

Christy Keating is the owner and principal presenter at The Heartful Parent, Savvy Parents Safe Kids as well as the founder and host of The Heartful Parent Academy.

With the mission to ensure that every parent gets the support they need on their parenting journey, Christy provides coaching and consulting services to parents, teaches workshops for professionals and parents throughout the U.S., and runs an online membership for parents (The Heartful Parent Academy).  Christy is a Certified Parent Coach® through the Parent Coach Institute (credentialed through Seattle Pacific University), a Certified Positive Discipline Instructor, a Certified Gottman Educator, and has completed the Professionals Intensive through Hand in Hand Parenting.  She is also a long-time leader and speaker at the Program for Early Parent Support, and a public speaker and group facilitator with more than 20 years of experience.

In addition to her work as a parent coach, Christy is a licensed attorney in the State of Washington.  As an attorney, Christy spent nearly twenty years as a felony prosecutor in the King County Prosecutor’s Office in Seattle, where she spent the latter part of her career specializing in the prosecution of sexually violent predators.  Immersed in the world of sexual assault and child sexual abuse, Christy developed a deep understanding and expertise in predatory tactics and abuse prevention strategies.  She now enjoys educating parents, caregivers, educators, and other professionals so as to help stop these problems before they happen, rather than addressing them after the fact.

Above all, Christy loves helping parents find more love, joy, and connection in their families and with their children by helping them discover newfound energy in their parenting, develop an appreciation for what they have and who they are, and create sustainable ways to achieve their vision or dream for their family.
