Recharge Amidst a Busy Life

“Life is about change, sometimes it’s painful and sometimes it’s beautiful, but most of the time it’s both.” – Kristin Kreuk, actress

2022 has been quite a big year for women. Ketanji Brown Jackson was nominated and confirmed to the highest court in the nation making her the first Black female Supreme Court Justice. Adm. Linda Fagan became the first woman to lead a U.S. armed service and the Coast Guard. Mary Pelota won a seat in Congress making her the first Alaskan Native to do so. U.S. Soccer reached a long disputed equal pay agreement, which will finally ensure the women’s and men’s national teams receive equal pay.

For all the highlights that could be mentioned about the past year, there were major set backs for women as well. Most notable was the overturning of Roe v. Wade, changing the very fabric of women’s healthcare in America. From major changes to the rights of women to unexpected job loss in a number of sectors, we had to deal with often unwanted change throughout the year.

In this environment, have you found yourself to be more stressed than normal? Are you feeling overwhelmed and wish life can be different? Do you wonder how you can keep moving forward at this pace?

The team at The Koa Club wants you to dedicate some time during these last few days of 2022 to first congratulate yourself for making it through another rather tumultuous year; give yourself kudos for the accomplishments you have achieved this year; and reflect on all the valuable lessons you have learnt so far. Next, get set up for a productive 2023 by establishing key goals to aim for next year, but no matter what you may wish to successfuly achieve in 2023, remember to promise yourself that you will take the time you need for self-care.

We have always been passionate about empowering women, providing resources and tools to our members to help them achieve their best selves, to always grow by boldly stepping out of their comfort zones to take on new challenges, and to be confident in their capabilities. Along the way, we also encourage our members to not lose sight of the need to build a solid foundation for self-care.

With that in mind, we intentionally curated various expert workshops in 2022 for our members that focused on wellness, mindfulness, and the effective managment of pressures. We also hosted several featured panelists discussion events that included topics such as “Building Wellness and Mindfulness Habits for Busy Professionals”, “Mastering Time Management”, and “The Paradox of Pursuing Happiness”. Our monthly Collaborate for Success Huddle conversations encourage our members to share insights with one another on setting healthy boundaries, creating work-life satisfaction, and even questioning if there is a need to redefine career ambitions. We believe understanding ways to manage these self-care issues will remain critical to our members’ path to success and we pledge to keep creating learning opportunities that focus on our members’ well-being so they can continue to perform at their best without sacrificing their own sanity.

It’s safe to say the coming year can’t promise to be any more predictable than the ones of recent memory. However, as you look to tackle 2023 with a mixture of hope and grit, especially as you embark on your usual role of being the caretaker for others, whether its for your loved ones, your team mates,  and any others in your life, we want you to “put on your oxygen mask first” and to prioritize your own self-care without guilt.

If you had a difficult 2022, we say hang in there, better times will come, If you had a great 2022, we say awesome job and continue to cheer you from the sidelines.  If you take away only one thing from this newsletter today, just repeat to yourself aloud: “Recharge to Take Charge”.

We wish you all an incredible 2023, and for many years to come.

Happy Holidays!
